Online Gin Rummy
Here were going to concentrate on online Gin Rummy. When referring to how to play rummy, most people mean Gin Rummy rules.
The objective is to score more points that the other player while getting rid of cards. You want to always be working toward forming melds by laying down sets or runs of card that share the same rank such as three jacks or share a consecutive numeric sequence in the same suit like the 3,4, and 5 of clubs. When drawing and discarding so you’re constantly working toward discarding as many cards as possible and scoring points.
The dealing alternates from turn to turn. Initially the dealer deals ten cards to himself and the other player. The last card dealt is laid face up and will represent the discard pile. the rest of the cards are laid in a stack and used from drawing. The dealer does not go first so the other player has a bit of advantage being able to pick up the card in the discard pile if they so desire.
Each turn, a player will draw a card from the discard pile or the deck also known as the stock pile. A player may knock when he wants to end the game believing that he has gin or if the player’s remaining cards are “deadwood” and they don’t exceed 10 points. Deadwood cards are cards that have been unmatched or unmelded. Once a player has knocked, the other players must lay off cards on existing sets. A player’s deadwood cards count against him so you must know that aces are worth 1 point, face cards are worth 10 points and all other cards are worth their numeric value.
You have to be cautious and strategic about knocking because if a player knocks and the opponent has a lower deadwood count of cards, the knocker automatically loses. This type of win is called and “undercut”.
So there are three main actions in the pursuit of winning Gin Rummy: Ginning, Knocking and Undercut.
